Brief History

The African Center for Health, Climate & Gender Justice Alliance (ACHCGA) was born in 2023, inspired by the UNFPA Youth Working Group’s call for meaningful youth engagement in climate action and resilient health, and the global review Taking Stock: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Climate Commitments by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Queen Mary University of London. ACHCGA was officially registered in 2024. ACHCGA stands as both an organization and an alliance, bringing together women, children, indigenous persons, and frontline communities to advance gender justice, champion resilient health, and accelerate climate solutions across Africa.

Why We Exist

African Center for Health, Climate & Gender Justice Alliance (ACHCGA) exists to ignite a revolution for climate action. We envision a future where humanity and nature live in harmony, with a healthy planet empowering everyone to thrive, regardless of background or circumstance.

Grassroots Collaboration: We work hand in hand with local communities, amplifying their voices in climate policy and showcasing stories of resilience. We believe the most potent solutions start from the ground up.

National Collaboration

  • Policy: We work with government officials at the national level to ensure that Kenya’s National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and the National Determined  Contributions are inclusive of gender perspectives and health needs.
  • Capacity Building: We empower young advocates, including persons with disabilities, to become champions for change. We also collaborate with feminists at the national level to integrate their views on gender justice into national strategic plans.

Global Collaboration

  • UNFCCC Advocacy: Since COP28, ACHCGA has contributed to climate change negotiations, we champion ethical, inclusive climate action.
  • ENGO, WGC & YOUNGO: We work with these UNFCCC groups to ensure global climate action strategies are inclusive of youth and gender perspectives
  • Technical Expertise: We contribute our knowledge and expertise to coalitions in Kenya and beyond, including the Technological Advice and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
